My client, a world leader in food ingredients, enzymes and bio-based solutions, are seeking a PhD qualified Monogastric researcher to join their team of 6 Researchers based in the South West of the UK. All applicants will need to have an in-depth research background, with an interest within the Monogastric field.
Basic purpose
• To demonstrate independent leading research in animal physiology or nutrition-health interactions, in collaboration with a multi-disciplinary group of scientists as part of the Research Department within Danisco Animal Nutrition
Key Responsibilities
• Demonstrates independence leading research in animal physiology or nutrition-health interactions, in collaboration with a multi-disciplinary group of scientists.
• Shows creative and original thinking in developing innovative solutions for the animal production industry.
• Manages research resources to meet the goals of projects in the healthy nutrition area, including enzymes, betaine, and probiotic technologies.
• Plans, coordinates, and supervises in-vitro studies, animal trials, and post-doctoral programs effectively and timely.
• Prepares protocols, analyse data, and produce reports on experiments.
• Presents scientific work cogently at internal and external meetings.
• Writes scientific papers.
• Interacts effectively with scientists of different disciplines and cultural backgrounds.
• Undertakes a limited amount of travelling world-wide.
Key Activities
• Shows potential for original thinking and ability to lead a research program to develop innovative solutions for the animal protein industry.
• Liaises with scientists of different disciplines including nutrition, microbiology, bio-chemistry, molecular engineering, immunology, product form, and engineering, to charter and execute early stage research projects.
• Develops research plans for the business area, including timelines, and budget requirements, and submit for approval. Implements plan and monitor progress of projects according to milestones.
• Provides scientific input to new product development project teams, and collaborate with internal colleagues from the Development, Global Technical Service, and Marketing teams to achieve project objectives
• Manages research projects in accordance with good research practice and ISO 9001 procedures at chosen establishments. Maintains accurate project records for each research site and project - financial, research protocols, and contracts. Monitors performance of chosen establishments.
• Coordinates studies with partners, and actively seek to enhance the technical know-how of Danisco Animal Nutrition in the area.
• Maintains an up to date awareness of all R&D activities in the sector through literature review and industry and academic networking. Prepares articles for scientific publication and seek opportunities to present papers and presentations at suitable conferences and exhibitions.
• Maintains Key Account service activities as agreed from time to time.
Professional Competencies
• Degree qualification in bio-sciences or related subject
• PhD
• PhD with emphasis on animal health or animal physiology, relevant to research in mono-gastric farm animals.
• Minimum 2 years’ post-doctoral or technical/commercial experience (before or after PhD).
• Relevant experience in some of the following fields: intestinal health, nutrient metabolism, immunology, nutrigenomics, animal growth and development, animal production, animal health, and research management.
• Understand the poultry and swine industries.
• Experience in ruminant or aquaculture science beneficial, but not necessary.
• Experience in commercial animal nutrition or health, or related supply industries an advantage.

• Good communication skills in English, including clear report writing, scientific writing, and effective oral communication with individuals and groups.

• Multilingual skills an advantage - able to work in a multi-cultural environment
• Good IT skills to collect and analyse data and concisely report as valuable, relevant information

• Project and research management including ideation, concept validation, designing of experiments, undertaking statistical analysis, and interpreting data.
